Ninja Math Fact Challenge:
The 2nd grade math classes are going to be focusing on mastering addition and subtraction facts (0-10). We have created a "Ninja" theme to teach math facts to get kids excited about learning! Students will take a mastery quiz (0+1, then 1+ then 2+, etc.) When a student masters a ninja math fact, they will get to sign their name on the Ninja poster that's on display in our classroom and move onto the next ninja math fact. Students will be given addition and subtraction flash cards at the beginning of the year. Please practice these at home 2-3 times a week so students are ready to pass off their math facts in class! For students that complete all math facts and/or make significant progress at the end of the year, will get to participate in a special celebration.
Homework- Students will receive a spiral math review sheet on Monday or the first day of every week. This sheet will have five problems per day of the week. This sheet will be due on Friday or the last day of the week. Students will be graded on participation in turning in their homework on Friday's. Students also need to practice their math facts 2-3 times a week. They will receive math flash cards at the beginning of the year to practice at home.
At the beginning of the year, I will send home a "Math at Home Folder" in a bag. In that bag there are ideas for practicing math games and handouts you can print from home. There is also example math discussions to have with your child while they are away from school, in their everyday life. This bag is meant to stay at home so you and your student can work on basic math skills when time allows. The last item in the bag, are addition and subtraction flash cards. Students are expected to practice at home 2-3 times a week. We will have weekly math facts quizzes from our Ninja Math.
